Assessments
At Growing Minds Therapy, we believe that every child deserves an assessment process that is thorough, respectful and focused on understanding who they are, not just the challenges they experience.
We provide comprehensive, evidence-based assessments that help identify your child's strengths, support needs and developmental profile. Our approach is warm, family-centred and tailored to each child's unique presentation, combining standardised assessment tools with clinical observation and collaboration with parents, carers and other professionals.
Whether you're seeking answers about your child's sensory processing, adaptive functioning or developmental differences, our assessments are designed to provide meaningful insights and practical recommendations to support your child's participation, wellbeing and future goals.

Helping families gain clarity, confidence and direction.
What we offer
Sensory Profile - 2
The Sensory Profile 2 is a standardised assessment that helps identify how your child processes and responds to sensory information in their everyday environment. Every child experiences the world differently, and understanding their unique sensory profile can provide valuable insight into behaviours, emotional regulation and participation in daily activities.
Completed by a parent, caregiver and/or teacher who knows your child well, the Sensory Profile explores how your child responds to sensory experiences such as touch, movement, sound, visual input, taste and smell. It also examines patterns of sensory processing and how these may influence learning, behaviour, social participation and everyday routines.
The assessment helps identify whether your child is more likely to:
Seek sensory input
Avoid sensory experiences
Be more sensitive to sensory information
Miss or not notice sensory input that others typically would
Understanding these patterns allows Occupational Therapists to develop practical, evidence-based strategies that support your child's participation at home, school and within the community.
Following the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report outlining your child's sensory processing profile, an explanation of the results, and personalised recommendations that can be implemented by families, educators and other professionals.
A Sensory Profile Assessment may be appropriate if your child:
✓ becomes easily overwhelmed by noise, crowds or busy environments
✓ seeks excessive movement, touch or other sensory experiences
✓ avoids certain clothing, food textures or grooming activities
✓ has difficulty with emotional regulation or coping with changes
✓ struggles with attention, learning or participation at school
✓ experiences frequent meltdowns or sensory overload
✓ has challenges with transitions or everyday routines
✓ would benefit from a better understanding of their sensory processing needs
Please note:
The Sensory Profile is not a diagnostic assessment. It is used to better understand your child's sensory processing patterns and how these may impact their daily life. The results are considered alongside clinical observations, parent and teacher information, and other assessments where appropriate, to guide intervention and support planning.
Comprehensive Functional Assessment
A Comprehensive Functional Assessment provides a detailed understanding of your child's strengths, support needs and participation in everyday life. It explores how your child functions across a range of environments, including home, school and the community, to identify factors that may be impacting their independence, wellbeing and ability to engage in meaningful daily activities.
The assessment combines information gathered from parents, caregivers, educators and clinical observations to develop a holistic understanding of your child's current functioning. This collaborative approach ensures recommendations are practical, individualised and relevant to your child's everyday life.
The assessment includes:
A comprehensive parent or caregiver interview
Relevant standardised assessments and questionnaires
Classroom observation and consultation with your child's teacher
A comprehensive written report with personalised recommendations
Understanding your child's functional abilities helps identify areas of strength, recognise barriers to participation and develop practical, evidence-based strategies to support their confidence, independence and success across everyday environments.
Following the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report outlining your child's current level of functioning, key strengths, areas requiring support and individualised recommendations that can be implemented by families, educators and other professionals.
A Comprehensive Functional Assessment may be appropriate if your child:
✓ is experiencing challenges participating at home, school or within the community
✓ would benefit from a better understanding of their strengths and support needs
✓ is experiencing difficulties with independence in everyday activities
✓ requires recommendations to support participation at school or home
✓ is seeking evidence to support an NDIS access request or plan review
✓ would benefit from recommendations to guide therapy and intervention planning
✓ requires a comprehensive overview of their current functional abilities
✓ would benefit from practical strategies to build confidence, independence and participation
Comprehensive ADHD Assessment
A Comprehensive ADHD Assessment is a thorough, evidence-based evaluation designed to explore whether your child's behaviours, attention, executive functioning and developmental profile are consistent with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Rather than relying on a single questionnaire or observation, this assessment brings together information from multiple sources to develop a comprehensive understanding of your child's strengths, challenges and support needs.
At Growing Minds Therapy, our Comprehensive ADHD Assessment includes a detailed parent or caregiver interview, standardised ADHD screening questionnaires, consultation with your child's teacher, a classroom observation, clinical observations and a functional assessment of your child's participation across home and school environments. This collaborative approach helps build a complete picture of how your child functions across different settings.
Following the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive written report outlining the assessment findings, clinical observations and practical recommendations to support your child's success at home, school and within the community. A feedback session is also included to discuss the assessment results, answer any questions and provide guidance regarding appropriate supports and next steps.
Please note:
A Comprehensive ADHD Assessment completed by an Occupational Therapist does not provide a formal diagnosis of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) on its own. A formal diagnosis must be made by an appropriately qualified medical specialist, such as a Paediatrician or Psychiatrist.
As every child presents differently, additional assessments may be recommended to provide a comprehensive understanding of your child's strengths and support needs. This may include a Speech and Language Assessment, Cognitive Assessment completed by a registered psychologist, or other allied health assessments where appropriate. These assessments can provide valuable information to support the diagnostic process and guide intervention planning.
Our Comprehensive ADHD Assessment includes:
Comprehensive parent or caregiver interview
Standardised ADHD screening questionnaires
Sensory Profile 2
Teacher interview
Classroom observation
Clinical observations and functional assessment
Comprehensive written report
Feedback session to discuss assessment findings and recommendations
A Comprehensive ADHD Assessment may be appropriate if your child:
✓ has difficulty paying attention or staying focused
✓ is easily distracted or forgetful
✓ is constantly on the go or finds it difficult to sit still
✓ acts impulsively or struggles with self-regulation
✓ has difficulty following instructions or completing everyday tasks
✓ is experiencing challenges at home or school
✓ has concerns raised by parents, educators or another health professional
✓ would benefit from a comprehensive understanding of their attention, behaviour and executive functioning
Comprehensive Autism Assessment
A Comprehensive Autism Assessment is a thorough, evidence-based evaluation designed to explore whether your child's strengths, behaviours and developmental profile are consistent with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Rather than relying on a single assessment, this process brings together information from multiple sources to develop a comprehensive understanding of your child's unique presentation and support needs.
At Growing Minds Therapy, our Comprehensive Autism Assessment includes the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2), recognised internationally as one of the gold-standard assessment tools for evaluating behaviours associated with autism. The assessment also incorporates detailed parent and caregiver interviews, consultation with your child's teacher or educational setting, a functional assessment, clinical observations and relevant standardised questionnaires where appropriate.
By gathering information across a range of environments, we are able to develop a holistic understanding of your child's communication, social interaction, play skills, behaviour, adaptive functioning and participation in everyday life.
Following the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive written report outlining the assessment findings, clinical observations and recommendations. A feedback session is also included to discuss the results, answer any questions and provide guidance regarding the next steps and appropriate supports for your child and family.
Please note: A Comprehensive Autism Assessment completed by an Occupational Therapist does not provide a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder on its own. A formal diagnosis must be made by an appropriately qualified medical specialist, such as a Paediatrician or Child Psychiatrist. Depending on your child's presentation, additional assessments, such as cognitive, speech and language assessments, may also be recommended to ensure a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation.
